Finals Day

Finals Day takes place on Sunday 8th July

Watford Town lost the Toss and were asked to bat first.

Watford Town started the Innings with a 6 off the last ball of an otherwise tight first over but after that boundaries were hard to get. Lots of hard running between the wickets was needed. Watford Town made steady progress but good tight bowling made it hard to score quickly. After 10 overs Watford were on 54 for 3 with one retired so still wickets in hand. After 15 overs progress was still steady with some good running pushing the score to 72 for 3. But it was the last 5 overs where Watford started a charge and the game really picked up pace. At the end of the 20 overs Watford Town reached 118 for 4 (with 2 Retired) and scoring 46 off the last 5 overs giving them a good total to try and defend.

Redbourn came into bat and were also met with some good tight bowling by the Watford Town opening bowlers. Redbourn were looking for singles and were rotating the strike well but an early breakthrough came at the start of the second over. The new batsmen, along with the other opener looked well set and with some good running but also some well hit boundaries they took the score up to 37 for 1 at the end of the 6th over, just ahead of the run rate. But then the game changed. Some excellent Fast Bowling at one end and Leg Spin at the other saw 4 key wickets fall in 5 overs. This left Redbourn 52 for 5 at the end of the 11th over. From then on Watford Town took control and Redbourn never got the run chase going again. Redbourn finished on 81 for 8 off their 20 Overs.

Watford Town won the game by 37 runs and became U14B County Champions.

Well done to both teams for playing an excellent Final.
